Doing everything different, The Chainsmokers’ darker path

Be introduced to The Chainsmokers, an American DJ and production duo whose origin is the New York City, US. The pair, Alex Pall and Andrew Taggart, have been active since 2012 and they are a force to be reckoned with in EDM and electro pop genres. They have released many songs some of which have been groundbreaking, being top-ranked in many countries. The duo has won the Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording, two American Music Awards, and five iHeartRadio Music Awards.

The Chainsmokers was initially made up of Alex Pall and former DJ Rhett Bixler before its makeover and Taggart joined. Alex Pall was born in 1985 and grew up in Westchester County, New York. Andrew Taggart was born in 1989 and grew up in Freeport, Maine. Some of their famed singles include “Selfie,” “Roses,” “Closer,” and “New York City” among others.

The duo has decided to go into ‘darker’ territory, and their zealous fans are already there. They released a new single, “Sick Boy,” which is their first single in this their new path. This single came out nine months after their last song, contrary to their norm, a song every month. “Sick Boy” and other singles to follow will be giving a discourse to what it is like to be alive and in this generation. The songs are inspired by things the duo observes and also things they go through at a personal level. The Chainsmokers are on a path, that of making something different to what people are used to.

In the present day, almost everyone has a social media platform, and people are wary of how they portray themselves to the world. Fame comes at a cost, for example, little privacy and a lot of public judgment. It was a risk that the Chainsmokers took when they decided to pursue this darker path, but they have the support they need from their supporters. The Chainsmokers released a video for “Sick Boy” which does not overshadow the lyrics. One can read in between the lines without obvious storytelling.
