Brazilian Neurologist and Researcher Jorge Moll

Jorge Moll got his medical training from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro in 1994, then finished up his Neurology residence there in 1997. The Brazilian scientist and businessman had previously started a health diagnostics lab in 1977, and this lab was transformed into one of the biggest networks of independent hospitals in 2010 when he sold it and afterwards became the co-founder and the president of the D’Or Institute for Research and Education, which is focused on cognitive and behavioral neuroscience.

The skilled neurologist, who also has a Ph.D. in Experimental Pathophysiology from the University of Sao Paulo, has a great interest in the psychological and neural mechanisms that govern human choices and social preferences and how morals and values, along with experience, culture, and technological interventions, shape them (http://www.idor.org/nossa-equipe). Jorge Moll has contributed to several publications that are centered around the study of the functions of the brain, and he is the associate editor of another publication called Understanding Neuroscience.

There are 35 hospitals in the network that started from the transformation of the lab that Jorge Moll founded, and these hospitals, known as Rede D’Or, have been in operation for over 20 years, and have more than 5,000 beds in them collectively. The neurological researcher runs studies on behavioral issues such as Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and Seasonal Depression to better understand these types of conditions and how they can be treated more effectively.

Jorge Moll is also a motivational speaker who acts as a moderator in debates on the subject of health management policies (Facebook). He is a member of many organizations that are focused on neuroscience, such as the Brazilian Academy of Sciences, the Organization for Human Brain Mapping, the Society for Neuroscience and the International Neuroethics Society, where he was an elected governors board member in 2012-2013.

The neurology expert and entrepreneur also has training as a cardiologist, and in 2017 he was listed as the 13th wealthiest person in the country of Brazil.
